This show linked ideas of ‘play’ as a creative act with an ongoing study of the mid-20th century (sub)urban landscape, and included a series of ink on paper drawings of 1960’s public ‘play sculptures’ originally located in public spaces in Birmingham. These drawings were shown alongside a series of sculptural works that included ‘failed’ proposals for 1960’s play sculptures (made by us in 2008/9) and an installation of silver birch trees in geometric planters that were our take on municipal concrete street furniture.
